| SEARSPORT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING SCHEDULE |
Searsport Historical Society meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 at the Congregational Church on Church St in Searsport. Refreshments follow each program The Richardson Girls," Mary Brann and Helen Nezda, will present the Tuesday, August 10th program entitled "AND TO THINK THAT IT HAPPENED ON COTTAGE STREET!" It's all about memories of the summers they spent during the middle of the last century at the family summer home on Cottage Street. They and many others recall with pleasure their youthful summer days in this charmed place and have shared their memories for this occasion which promises to be a veritable smorgasboard to be enjoyed by all. Growing up on Cottage Street is a "Sentimental Journey." Raising the wharf flag mornings and taking it down at sunset, waving Hi to strangers who answered back to these friendly little kids they didn't even know, and the excitement of "going up town." The boathouse became their foul weather playhouse, fishing off the town wharf with a "fishpole" of wood with string and a hook baited with a clam. Once they came home with an actual fish - a 200 lb. halibut! "Hurricane Carol left us marooned in candlelight." And there was a seaplane, a watery wedding party, and even an alligator! To hear more of these stories join us at 7:00 pm in Curtis Hall on Church Street as we joyously recall these memories. |
